DIY Bird Pillow Project

Hey there friends!  I hope everyone is having a fun Saturday.  Well if you're like me and going to the craft store is the only crafting project you've had going on lately, then maybe I can get us motivated!

Here are the items you will need:
paper and pen
blue flannel fabric
white or patterned fabric
embroidery threads...brown, pink, white, and gold
scissors
regular needle

This is a cute little pillow that I made yesterday for my sister-in-law....sssshhhh...she doesn't know yet!  I thought it would be fun to take pictures along the way and share with y'all.  And to get us even more motivated...this is what it looked like when finished...

The first thing I did was type "bird pillow" in Google Images.  I eventually found a few different pictures I liked and then just sort of made it my own...

Use another piece of paper to trace it.  Then cut out the paper, put it against the blue fabric, and start cutting.  You will also need to figure out how large you want the pillow to be and cut the white fabric.  I made mine into a large rectangle so I could fold one side and not have to sew it.

I should probably point out that it is best if you already have a little bit of embroidering knowledge.  That will be important when doing the eyes, feathers, legs, and beak.  A really useful video I found on YouTube is Embroidery Basics - How to Embroider.  You will be doing the Back Stitch, and you only have to watch the first five or six minutes of the video.  Here is the link.

After sewing on the brown eye and pink and white feathers, then you will sew the blue bird onto the white fabric or a cute patterned fabric.  I just used regular thread for this part.

Then you will sew on the two brown legs and a gold beak.

You will then turn the white fabric over and sew two sides (I had one folded side that did not have to be sewn).

Turn the pillow right side out again and then stuff the pillow and neatly do the fourth side as an outer stitch.

And here is another picture of the final product...I like the folded side to always be at the top.

I like to keep clear plastic wrapping paper here at the house.  It comes in handy for wrapping up cute things like this...

I hope you enjoyed this!  Please let me know if you have any questions...I hope all this makes sense.  Let me know if you are able to try it out!  :)
